Winning Will Find You
As usual, I’m not claiming to be an expert in “Social Media”… However, even the most closeted people have heard about Facebook & Twitter (especially now that @Oprah has joined the Twitterverse).
Furthermore, there are Beowulf sized blogs written about “how to” engage consumers via facebook, blogs, wiki’s, twitter, etc… The idea below about “Winning Will Find You.” is a fragmented, sliver sized tactic to the larger strategy of how brands can use social media (especially in promotions).

I’ve seen the strategy used by various tweeters on a small scale; giveaways for ipods, sporting events, memberships, etc. However, big brands can also use this strategy to accomplish various “Marketing” objectives. Gain an audience, increase awareness, generate trial, drive traffic to a site and more. Better yet, it’s simple & cheap…
A Few of Many Approaches:
1. #Hashtag Search - Ask tweeters to RT a specific phrase or use a specific #hastag. A seemingly innocuous tagline with no clear brand advocacy could be useful while “prepping” for the national launch of your ad campaign. Are you familiar with “dark marketing”? This is it at its finest. Anyone who does this can be entered into a sweepstakes…
2. DM Unique Codes - Looking for ways to drive traffic to a promotional microsite? Incentivize users to follow you on twitter. When they do, they’ll receive a DM with a code that can be used at a URL for bonus entries into sweepstakes or additional credits for gameplay.
3. Tell-A-Friend 2.0 (Why is everything 2.0?) - The old standby has been “Enjoyed your experience? Send an email to your friends.”… Every year email marketing gets more cumbersome with new CANSPAM regulations. Now a days it’s so much easier to add a quick button on your microsite and ask your user to “tweet” their experience… cheap, easy, effective!
Whether Twitter is just the Flavor of the Month or a long-lasting advertising medium, I couldn’t tell you. All I can say is take advantage of the opportunity while it’s available. “Winning Will Find You.” is a great way to start exploring.
