#smwny
Today kicked off Social Media Week in New York (http://www.socialmediaweekny.com/). “The NSFW: What’s Sexy & What Sucks in Social Media” hosted at the Razorfish offices was an interesting start to what I hope is an educational yet fun filled week. This first event gets chalked up to more “fun-filled” and less “educational”. Nonetheless, good times.
Truthfully, I was hoping for an objective discussion/in-depth analysis of brand explorations in the Web 2.0 world…. Instead, it was a conversation with two (certainly brilliant) founders of two very different sites. 1. tumblr.com & 2. iminlikewithyou.com. The only thing in common being a few investors.
Dave Karp (tumblr) seemed to “get it”. A student of the industry & driven by a passion for connecting people. While he hasn’t figured out how to monetize the site, (unless you believe: http://bit.ly/2gUvtK) it’s apprant he’s aiming for a best in class platform. Charles on the other hand, seemed to be more interested in 14 year old girls…
Regardless, enjoyed the night and met some good folks from Panman productions (http://bit.ly/iGbp), incubaker (http://bit.ly/a1sE), and one of my favorite tweets @ischafer.
